SoSkAn, the Southern Skirmish Association, is the oldest American Civil War Re-enacting Society outside of the United States, and is now in it's 50th year. In this time the Association has performed in many and varied venues around Britain, the Continent and the USA.
Venues have included multi period military shows, small local fetes, county shows, large country clubs and stately homes with arguably the most prestigious events being the Royal Tournament in 1992 and the British Military Tournament in 2011. Members of Soskan are often used by film and TV companies for documentaries, feature films and advertising.
Our aim is to honour the fallen of the American Civil War, both Blue and Grey, and we do this by means of "living history" re-enactments, with most members camping out in period costume and accommodation although modern camps are also available. We recreate realistic battle scenes and skirmishes, including artillery, as well as infantry forces.
Hundreds of friendships have been forged within the Society over the years and the continued dedication of its members give testimony to the enjoyment and fulfillment that they receive through their membership of the Society.
We have attempted to answer many of the most popular questions in our FAQ Section, as well as giving more specific details about the Society and its operations in The Information Section.
If you would like to receive further information about Soskan then please use the contact form.
Should you wish to join us, instructions can be found on our membership page in addition to essential information concerning the use of replica fire arms, training camps, coming events and the latest society news. All members also receive an online copy of the Society Magazine, Bugle Call.
Please note that the committee changes annually in November after the AGM to which all members are always welcome.
The Southern Skirmish Association is a registered UK charity (No. 282888) and donations are always very welcome!
